Sigma Oct

Sigma Octantis is a solitary star in the Octans constellation that forms the pole star of the Southern Hemisphere. It is positioned one degree away from the southern celestial pole. To those of us who live in the Southern Hemisphere it appears almost motionless in the night sky with all the other stars appearing to rotate around it.

A PLACE TO BE

The stars appear to turn clockwise around our southern pole and the Milky Way is ever present. Big, bright and beautiful and dazzilng in star trails. The stars of the Southern Cross are some of the brightest stars in the sky.

IN LOVE WITH STAR TRAILS

An amazing night to watch the world spin by. There was diffuse aurora colour much less than was promised, but colour nonetheless. Add to that the most amazing green airglow and then top that off with a red/pink SARs arc and the sky was just singing. Alone on an isolated beach without a care in the world, no phone reception no distractions. Can we stop the clock and sit here for a little while longer?

The stars are amazing when you are away from light pollution, they don't seem real. I love star trails!
